Nov 23 - Snow good.

John,

Excellent SV site. Thought you would like to see why we don't ride year round in Canada.

It was -24C last night so I decided to put the SV in the basement so I could work on it without needing a Eskimo to warm up the tools for me. :)

Yep it does look a little chilly. Perhaps Suzuki should build an SV Skidoo? (spelling?)

Nov 22 - Exhaustive research

John

Well, for now I think I am finished! The exhaust article is complete as it can get at the moment although I am still awaiting some replies from some of the manufacturers, most noticeably, Jorge at Renegade, but I have spoken to him and he will send in some comments. Don't know how you want to present it on the site as there is quite a lot of info but have attached the spread sheet that includes everything.

Tell me what you think and if you need me to put it into a different format for ease of adding to the site. Might be worth a conversion to an HTML Page?

Anyway, see want you think.

Thanks Phil

Thank you Phil, I can see a lot of time and effort has gone into this. I have converted it into HTML, it's lost the drop down filters and the page is wide but not everyone has Excel, so it will give them access. I think it's best in it's original form and this is also available.

Nov 21 - New for Old

John, It's a shame the DL650 is just as ugly as the original V-Strom. Although in a way I'm glad it is. I was looking to trade in my W reg SK1 next spring and I'd hoped the DL650 would give me a more comfortable riding position but with wind protection for my daily commute up the A2.
Then the week before last my local dealer was offering the SK3 OTR for less than £4,000. I couldn't resist especially as my bike was due its service , needed a new front tyre, chain & sprockets , and the battery was beginning to give me some
concern. Anyway after 31,000 miles and 100% reliability I traded it in. The engine was still as strong as when it was first run in.

First impressions of the SK3 over the SK1

Seat is higher and it feels a bigger bike. Reach seems about the same , but footpegs slightly higher. Fuel injection makes power delivery a bit smoother. Don't like not being able to turn the lights off, but they are much brighter. There is less storage room under the rear seat. I'm having trouble deciding where to fit the scottoiler. The looks are growing on me.

All the best , keep up the good work on the site.

Regards Shaun Firmin

Daryl and I made the annual trip to the NEC on Wednesday. Here are some SV specific photos that you might enjoy. Hover cursor over images for comments. The Skidmarx fairing lowers were unbelievably nasty, they look far worse in the flesh.

Nov 17 - Manuals offer

John,

I've received a lot of business from SV owners and with Christmas coming I wanted to let you know that there are now 3 manuals available.

Clymer Suzuki SV650 1999-2002 Repair Manual http://www.motocom.com/catalog/M361

Haynes Suzuki SV650 1999-2002 Repair Manual http://www.motocom.com/catalog/H3912

Official Suzuki Factory Service Manual http://www.motocom.com/catalog/99500-36093-03E

In addition we now carry oil filters and brake pads for SV's. These other items can be located by searching our site.

For example here is our 2002 Suzuki SV650K2 Catalog http://www.motocom.com/motorcycles/2002/62/5/9543

I would like to make a Special Unadvertised offer for SV650.org visitors that you are free to promote and take credit for.

Until further notice all orders from SV650.org visitors, shipped to US destinations, will pay no shipping (usually $5-$15).
All they have to do is order online and enter in the Promo Code of: sv650org (all lower case) when they go through the check out procedure. It's very straightforward. There will still be a $1.79 handling fee to pay for warehouse costs but
the normal shipping fee will be completely waived.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Nov 15 - I've added some 2003 model service manuals to SV Service Manuals . It's not complete as there is a problem with the source, SVsocalriders.com

Nov 15 - That Video that Clive Howard mentioned.

Hello, John.

Yes, It's me again.

I've come to the conclusion that 56k modems just don't cut the mustard. So this is the best I can do for the time being. for all those out there with only 56k modems, I feel your pain.

This is one of my favorite Saturday morning rides. ( just like the track ). I know I shouldn't be saying things like this. Wouldn't want to have a bad influence on others. I just can't help myself. And before you say it..... Yes I know.

This was filmed with a bullet cam strapped to the Ogie knob and the near side mirror of the beast.

Sorry about the res, however this was the only way I could get the file to an acceptable size for E-mail.

Must have Real player.

Kind regards
Clive Howard - NSW Australia.

Nov 12 - Sharkskinz fairings

Hi John,
Got my SV650s new last month. Although the weather is pretty darn awfull at the moment, I love it so much, I'm more than happy to get wet and cold. (Just had a week off work with the flu, nothing to do with riding in this weather though !!!)
(watch out for salt corrossion, slap plenty of protection on your new baby otherwise she will suffer. I speak from experience)

Anyway, found this link that some readers may be interested in :
http://www.sharkskinz.com/suzukisv650s2003.htm
(I think this has been mentioned before, but it was a while back and worth a repeat).

They do a full fairing for the SV650/1000. They are in the US. but if anyone has the money for shipping, it may be worth a go.

Anyway folks, happy riding through these winter months and roll on the summer..!!!!!

Mike.

Nov 12 - Give me a clue! (mystery solved)

hey john thanks for the reply. This a 2001 SV650s that I installed a 1999 R6 fairing. It also has 2001 GSXR 1000 front forks with the SV steering stem that was machined to fit the 1000 triple tree so that I could keep my SV steering bearings. I have also installed a GSXR 750 rear shock. I also rewired the dash wires and changed out a few sensors to install a 20001 GSXR dash. I have don a lot of work to the bike and am proud to say I did all the work my self. I love my SV and probably will never get rid of it. thanks again for the response. Jerod Morris

It's nice to have the details. It does look nice, the Yamaha fairing does suit the rest of the styling. You don't work in a breakers yard by any chance?

Nov 12 More babies

Just thought I'd contribute to your great site with a pic of my two baby's the Sv is only three weeks old.

Keep up the good work

Nov 8 - SV kids part2

Can you put this pic in the gallery as there isn't one of my bike and this one is a corker! can you let me know if you do, also do you know where the best place to by a undertray for my 2000sv is?
cheers,
Chris Hill

I wrote to Chris about undertrays. It would be nice if readers sent in a bit more info with their photos, just adds a bit more interest for the rest of us.

Chris wrote back with the following. It interests me to know about the person behind the bike. I'm sure this is true for other readers

Hi John,
Sorry I didn’t give much into in my last e-mail, I’ll explain who I am and about the pic. My name is Chris Hill, I am 18 (yes 18), I’m a full time chef and am the proud owner of a restricted 2000 SV650/s. I passed my test on August 7th this year and after riding a Yamaha TW 125 for a few weeks I decided that I wanted a proper bike then after a lot of financial stuff I bought and restricted my bike.
The pic was taken outside my house and is of a kid called Paddy McBride. (A friend of the family) I think he’s nearly 5 and loves the Kawasaki Ninja, but I’m trying to convert him into a lover of the SV. Judging by his pose it won’t be too hard. Thanks for the advice on the under tray, just ordered one from MPS, ill send you a pic when it’s on.
Cheers
Chris Hill

All the best,

Nov 3 - New K3 fairing lowers from James Leonard

Hi John
Here are some pics of the lowers added to my bike, I would have put them on the forum but couldn't work out how to send the pics. Would you be kind enough to put these on the site as a few people have wondered what they look like. Thank you for your time
Jay (Flying Nurse)

Look nice, are you the first to get these?

Nov 2 - Renegade Service from Mark Horridge

I visited Renegade on Friday (31/10/03, having never been before) and got a new titanium sleeve and the can re-packed. All I can say is "What a nice bunch!".
I also had a slightly unusual problem. I use an M4 can on trackdays to save my Rene one, and all the pipework is an M4 full system( home made adaptor for the Rene can). After an off earlier in the year the link pipe was dented. And I was after a new one.
After speaking to one of the Renegade guys (rides the CX500, sorry don't know the name), who done my can. We found it was between the hi and low level link pipes you do, and I was content to live with the dent for now, however your guy persisted and cut the connector off the M4 link pipe and fitted it to a bit of pipe which would replicate the angle of the M4, also changing the can connection on the M4 can, so it would also fit.
The result I now have M4 full system pipework with either a titanium Renegade can or M4 can As I wish and no dents in sight.

I'd like to Renegade you for the service I received and am more than happy with the results, it's nice to come across people who will "go the extra mile" for the customers.

Also thanks to Tomoko for the chat and coffee, attached are a couple of pics as promised (hope to see them in your book on my next visit.).

Cheers Mark Horridge

Nov 1 - Lord of the 'Ring

Hi John, I have been a big fan of your site since purchasing my 99' sv650 at the beginning of this summer. All I can say is, after throwing the OE tyres in the nearest skip, the bike has been top fun with very few niggles. In fact the only thing I can think of is the paint on the radiator starting to flake off. Be careful with that pressure washer guy's!

My highlight of the season was chasing two sports bike around the Nurburgring (O.K. It was only till we got to the first decent straight but I did have my tankbag sliding back off the tank to keep me sensible!). After those two came the Porsche 911. He gave in after locking up coming into a chicane and waved me passed. Never laughed so much in my life when he saw the SV come past. The look on his face was a picture!

I'd love 'to do' the 'Ring. I've an old in car video of Derek Bell thrashing a Porsche 962 (a LeMans racing jobbie) on that track - Awesome.

Nov 1- Readers new web site

Hi John, How are you? The stickers are still looking good. Now I have build a website dedicates to the SV series. Now is my question for you since your site is international known, could you place a link on your site and perhaps a banner. I will stick it to the email.

Greetings Martin Domburg www.martinenellen.nl

I like the 'international known' remark. It's one of the pleasures of running this site, I get emails from all over the world, which obviously appear here. Wouldn't it be great to have an international get-together, not keen on organising it though.

Nov 1 - Ultraseal offer

It's Perry here (or Image as i'm known on the forum) Just wandering if you would be interested in us (Ultrasealonline) offering a discount to the SV website. I have spoke to the boss and she said we could offer a bottle of Ultraseal which would treat 1 bike for £23.95 with free postage.

The contact number is 01634 827 362 and could they quote they're username on  the SV650.org forum to whoever answers the phone (to stop any other organisations/forums claiming discount hehe!!!)

Please let people know not to go through the site as its just one shopping cart with one price, I haven't worked out how to add a discount yet

Many thanks Perry

There you go folks, simple enough, ring the number above and quote your forum userid. I assume they take plastic!

Nov 1

I think October was a month some of us would rather forget. The death of Wayne Campbell was a shock. Like most of you I'd only 'spoken' to Wayne via email. Originally it was to help publicise his Lands End to John O'Groats. This trip was always planned as charity event. The death of Kevin Jones prompted Wayne to focus the fund raising towards Hope House. In the end Wayne raised £450, not bad for a one man operation.

Rob Suchley's accident was also another sad occasion. I hope he makes a quick recovery. It brings to light another menace we all face as bikers. Most of the drivers we meet are just not paying attention or have poor driving skills but they are legal and don't usually intend to injure or cause accidents. There seems to be a growing menace of lunatics out there that can't be bothered with being legal, some people call them joy riders but there's more to it than that. A lot of these people are older and have just decided the law doesn't apply to them. They own cars but they're not insured, the car isn't registered in their name, they don't care about anything or anybody. There is no police presence on the roads, so these people drive around in complete anonymity breaking all the rules knowing that no-one is going to catch them. If they want to run through a red light...they will.  As the government places more and more restrictive controls on our motoring, more of these people will decide to go flit into the darkness.

Not a lot of news from château Tapley to report. It's been a novelty riding the bike in the rain! Can't say I'm enjoying it especially after dark.  The next big event is the annual bike show at the NEC. I'll be making the trip with DarylB on the 19th. I notice from the forum that a few of you are working the stands. If you want any readers to drop by and say hello, then let me know and I'll publish a list.

John
