26th August - Link Exchange Hi, I've been doing a little bit of googling (new word?) tonight, looking for good websites to exchange links with, and yours fits the bill. As the point of contact for your site you are no doubt aware that reciprocal linking with the right sites can help both parties even if only a little. Our site is a community driven website based around the Bandit & SV ranges, but also accommodating a broader range of models. You can review the site at http://banditsvownersclub.net to see if it is one you would wish to link to. URL - http://banditsvownersclub.net Name - Bandit & SV Owners Community Description - A community based website based upon the Bandit & SV ranges If you would be happy to exchange, please send me the URL you wish visitors to enter your site at, along with a 468x60 banner if you wish, and I will place a reciprocal link on our site. Kind regards, Pete Huntingford BSVOC Webmaster I'm not usually to bothered about exchanging links, but I thought you might be interested in this. John |

13th August - Forum woes TSM has now moved the forum to a new server. DNS has been altered and may take a little while to propagate, although I could get in this morning. We've lost a couple of days worth of posts, as the latest backup was two days old. John |

12th August - Forum woes As mentioned below. JonBoy has just called me to say the forum server has died. TSM is busy moving the forum to a new server and then we need to redirect the DSN. Bear with while we work on this. I'll post regular updates here as I get them John |

11th August - ZX10 shock Just to prove you can fit a ZX10 shock to a mk2 SV, at least the 2003 model. Might be more of a challenge on the 04 onwards due to all the lower sub frame and toolbox gubbins. I took this photo of Creamy-buttery's bike at the AR06. John |

3rd August - New SV rumours "Rumours are now talking about a capacity increase of Suzuki's long serving SV 650. Euro 3 is taking its toll and the popular middleweight V-twin is currently only Euro 2 homologated. This effectively means the SV has to change or disappear from Suzuki's model range. It is believed that Suzuki not only will change the SV to comply with the new emission rules but also increase capacity from 650 to 700cc. This will increase power and torque and keep the SV competitive in a new and much more competitive middle weight market. But don't expect too much as the new regulations also makes it difficult for the engine builders to achieve as much power as we have seen in the past. Hence a capacity increase is the easiest way out. Even the 1000 might get some changes and if it involves more cc's and torque we welcome the changes." from http://www.raptorsandrockets.com/news.html Interesting website this. It'll be interesting to see if this prediction comes true. John |

21st July - Scottish ride out Hi John, I've been a long time subscriber to SV650.org but have never sent you any pics before. I had such a good time though at the end of May I wanted to send you these. They are a little dark I'm sorry. My bike is an SV650SY 2000 model that I have owned from new. It is still totally standard bar cosmetic bodywork. In May my mate (CBR600RR Movistar) and I went to Scotland for a week. We based ourselves at a fantastic B&B (Coig Na Shee) in Newtonmore and every day set out to ride some fantastic roads. The B&B was on the A86, the next nearest town is Spean Bridge, 36 miles away down the most fabulous biking road. Twisty in places, wide and very, very fast in others, very few 40mph limits. I would recommend everybody rides it at some point. The weather was very kind to us, cool, but not wet. I enjoyed it so much I'd do it again tomorrow if I had the chance. Being stationed at one location meant that we could ride each day without the hassles of luggage and trying to find somewhere to bed down every night. Certain places were still difficult to get to, John O'Groats was almost a 4 hour ride, mind you we did take the long route, south around Loch Ness. The couple at the B&B, Shirley and Chris, are bikers themselves (R1), have a beautiful home and couldn't have been more helpful, especially when I wore my tyre out! I haven't sent that pic, what's interesting about a metzeler showing canvas for about 5 inches round the centre! Scottish roads tear your tyres to bits, or maybe they just make you ride harder!? It's a little too far for a day trip, but well worth the journey for a week. The A82, A86 and A87 are just some of the best roads ever. The photos don't do them justice, but might give you a feel. Thanks for the great site John. Regards, Darren. Looks great, I'd love to try this one day. |

9th July - Mouse Pointers Hi John, Earlier this year I bought a new SV650N and then made some animated Microsoft Windows Mouse Pointers to remind me that I should really be out riding when working on my computer . I have previously posted collections to the Meriden Triumph sites on Yahoo that I am a member of and have now done a collection of SV650N and SV650S. The best one is a little pointer with a spinning SV650 underneath. Good detail and in colour. There are a number of others to choose from and also includes animated replacements for the Egg Timer. I was wondering if you would be interested to host them on this site for your members. I am offering this at no cost and my only conditions are that it should remain free to everyone who wants to download it, the copyright remains with me, I should be identified as the author and if I ask for it to be withdrawn then you (or any future site editor) will do so within a reasonable time. I should add that I have no commercial interests in any company concerned with this and there is no advertising and no hidden messages or code. If you are interested then let me know and I will send the small ZIP file containing the pointers and easy instructions on what to do. You can then check it out and see what you think. Best Regards, Simon Roberts UK Thanks for that. I've had a quick play and they are very good. Readers can download them from here. |

7th July - Tyre offer
Good Morning John. I recently had a pair of Metzeler Z6 fitted at Loose Wheels LTD in Colchester. The owner John Buck said he would offer our SV Club special deals or vouchers. I was very impressed with the friendly and professional Service and highly recommend them. He asked me to drop you an email & forward his contact details if our club would be interested. Website: http://loosewheels.co.uk/ email: mail@loosewheels.co.uk I'm not sure if you would be dealing with this or "Ping" our Essex Lounge Moderator. Please let me know. Many Thanks PatrickUK (Forum Name) I've yet to drop this firm an email, but I will get around to it. I'll see if they want to be listed in 'Services and Offers' on the main site. Cheers Patrick. |

August Ramblings Well July was the big month for me. After months of talking, thinking and planning, AR06 finally took place on 7th. As with any big event, if you've done your homework beforehand, things should go fine. This is a valid concept, except that there is always that little voice in the back of your mind saying 'what if?' Things can always go wrong and it's usually the things that you don't expect to fail. The campsite looked ideal, the ride out route had been ridden, tested and refined, the weather beyond my control. So what went wrong? Surprisingly little really. Dinkies Diner was a bit hidden for some. The marker system failed once, but Rictus quickly intervened. There was some dodgy riding reported by some, but that's about it. By any measure it was a great success and judging by peoples comments everyone had a good time. I know I did. The AR event has slowly evolved over the years and is moving in the same direction as the forum. It's a social gathering for like minded people. This years format of making the main day the Saturday was a break from previous years and seemed to work well. Most people arrived Friday for camping. With a mid morning start for the next day it meant a bit of a lie in and a chance to have a proper breakfast before joining the day trippers at Dinkies. Starting at 11.30 with 116 miles to cover, we were easily finished by 5:15pm. This included 3 generous breaks at Churchstoke, Clee Hill and Bridgnorth. I wasn't sure about the Clee Hill stop but it seemed a shame to miss the view. Despite my talk at the beginning of the run about riding sensibly, there were a few stories later about dodgy overtakes and excessive speed through some villages. I know we all get carried away a from time to time, but the secret to staying out of the hospital (and the police station) is self discipline and keeping a cool head. It wasn't a speed trial, so there wasn't a lot of need to overtake. Having said that, there were no accidents and no knickings. Not bad considering there were about 60 bikes. Having ridden the route the week before, I wasn't expecting many surprises. There was the odd road works that had sprung up and liberal dusting of gravel that someone hadn't bothered to sweep up on one road. The biggest difference was the traffic, it was much busier than the week before and the car park at Churchstoke was pretty full after being deserted the week before. Picking off cars can add a bit more interest to a ride as long as the traffic is moving at a reasonable speed, but this only affected the first part of the ride down to Newtown, the back roads were quieter. I think the distance was about right. I think most people were ready for a rest by the time we got back to the campsite. The prospect of a BBQ and some beer was looking good. I came back to the camp site in the evening for a proper session in the Old Swan. Naturally there were lots of debates and stories relating the ride, which got more and more exaggerated as the evening wore on. I think by the time the pub closed at midnight, most people had returned to their tents and I went home. -o0o- I've decided to go back to the old method of updating this page, that is adding posts as they arrive, rather than build the page up and publishing on the 1st of the month. The main reason for this is that I just didn't get around to building the page until the 31st and then it's a mad scramble to get it ready for the 1st. John |
