13/9/01 A happy Quill
customer - Alan Becket alan.becket@virgin.net
Thanks Alan this is useful info. Not everyone wants
the loudness of a race can, but most want to hear the wonderful noise that a
V twin can produce.John Hi congrats on taking over the web page. I've got some info that I havn't seen on this web page before so thought I'd type this up so you can pop it either on the current section or the exhaust section - or both. I've recently fitted a road legal end can to my SV. It's the new Quill Powerflow exhaust, not only does it make more power than the standard exhaust (see attached dyno chart - bike now has loads more mid range and seems to fly up to 90mph, it also seems to rev easier than with the standard can), but it also sounds great (just like my mate's illegal ART can), but the big benefit is that it is road legal and comes stamped with a BS number so there's no worries about the old bill giving you 3 points. I had a slight problem when I originally got the exhaust as it had a rattle from the end of the can. I rang Quill and they said they knew of the problem (the gap between inner and outer rings of the can at the back "interact" to produce what sounds like a rattling sound) this was soon fixed by putting a washer between the two rings (this mod can be requested when ordering the can so stop any future buyers suffering the same problem). I went to the factory for them do to the mod on the way up to Scotland when I did 1000 miles in 4 days on the SV - Great trip, must recommend the Isle of Skye or the A87 from the to any bikers looking for great roads.
The can is only available as a round can and is cheapest from JB racing who are on 01942 721667, price is £165 plus a tenner for P&P for the round steel
version I have (they do titanium and coloured titanium I think also). Took 3 weeks for delivery. Hope the dyno and picture (not the best close up but it
gives an indication) is interesting to others and if anyone needs any futher
info they can drop me a line. I intend to put a quick blurb on the Forum
pointing them to the Exhaust section for more details. |

12/09/01 A Micron problem
from Kevin Smith kevin.a.smith@concert.com
John, Good luck with the site, I know Kevin did a great job and I'm sure you will as well (thanks, I'll do my best). I had traded emails with Kevin when I first got my bike but I've had less time to ride it lately, anyway I have a question. I have fitted a high level "race" oval system from Micron (fitted after a car had me over and trashed the original system) and I will need an MOT in about 6 months - Yes my bike was one of the first in the country - I do not have the original pipe to refit and Micron have told me that they do not sell an end can that I can fit to the new pipe work. Can anyone help? Do I just need to find a can of the correct diameter that is road legal?(I think a end can with a BS kite mark is what the examiner and police look for. Not sure what the diameter of the header pipe is on a Micron, if its the same as standard then just as BS marked end can could be bodged to fit). I cannot see that the system makes the pipe louder and cannot understand that Micron do not sell a road legal can that I could just bolt on!! Help please (I know some Renegade owners have their original end can sent back to them with an adapter plate welded on so that the can be simply bolted on when required. Some kind soul maybe able to lend you theirs for the MOT. I'm not sure whether this will fit if you have a complete Micron system. The only other solutions that come to mind are (a) a trip to the breakers for a secondhand system, (b) some kind soul here has a spare complete system that you can borrow or buy (c) a cheap road legal can from M&P or such like that can be fitted with a wider adapter flange to accept the Micron headers (assuming they are a different size). You don't say whether this is a permanent requirement or just to get around the MOT.) I've just looked at the FAQ on Renegade and it states there that they make road legal cans, so maybe a new end can from Renagade designed to fit the micron header could be an option? Are you based in the south? What about selling the whole of your Micron system and going for another manufacturer that offers both road and race end cans? All suggestions to Kevin please, or pick this up in the forum. My 2p worth John.

12/09/01 - Another Micron
Problem, help required from Robert Wickens robert.wickens@tinyworld.co.uk
Sorry not very computer literate so didn't know how to post this on the site (just go to the forum and register. Then post to your hearts content.. John) . I have a full Micron hi-level exhaust system with a carbon oval can fitted to my SV650s. The system looks great and should do for the best part of £500. The trouble is that the lower end cap of the can keeps cracking around the weld after about 3000 mile. This in my opinion is due to it not being able to withstand the vibrations of the v-twin engine (that and maybe the metal is a bit on the thin side? John). However Micron has replaced the item three times now under warranty each time explaining that they have not heard of the fault before. What I would like to know is if you or anyone else has had or heard of the same problem. If so please contact me at Thank you Rob.

06/09/01 - Blue Flame end can comment from Tricia Owen Moody tricom@totalserve.co.uk I recently fitted a blue flame end can to my sv. and noticed that it was running in a rather chunky manor. I addition the expected performance gains were none existent. to remedy this i took it to the garage and had the carbs balanced. now not only does it sound awesome but it accelerates much more smoothly and rapidly. As for top speed i can only imagine it has added about 15mph........apparently. cheers rob.

17/08/01 - Street fighter exhaust? Thank you to SHU shumakerscott@hotmail.com for this info... I have only owned my SV for about a week and I knew the stock exhaust had to go. Reading all the posts on the web page, Renegade looked to be the only way to go. I wanted the dual low mount oval titanium's but the money to buy them wasn't there. I have a catalog from a German company "Louis" and they had a slip on for Dm 300. That is really cheap! They have a great return policy so I decided to try one. I was worried that it was going to be too loud, I live in Germany and don't want to attract any attention from the Polizie. The can arrived today and I wanted to all of a sudden get sick so I could leave work and check it out, my wife called and told me it was here. I got home 6hrs later and the first thing was to look down the throat, damn! I can look straight through it. Which to me means LOUD! I didn't want to cut up my stock exhaust on a gamble. Well, I cut it off and installed the end can, to my surprise it isn't too loud at all! This thing sounds great! mvc_013s.jpg mvc_014s.jpg mvc_015s.jpg mvc_016s.jpg mvc_017s.jpg mvc_018s.jpg For anyone looking to open up the sound and not attract attention then this is the pipe. It looks to be a double perf. tube, fiberglass wrapped core. The outlet is 7/8", this isn't very large compared to other brands. I think it will get a bit louder as time goes on but the outlet size seems to dictate it will stay within "no attention" levels. I hope this helps some readers with another choice that isn't so loud. BTW, I still want my dual Rene's!!!

Sure wish we could convince Jorge to put the "under seat" version of the twin pipes into production. I saw some pics on www.svrider.com and gave him a call immediately. I pretty much begged him to make a set but I was not successful. Needs more developement he tells me. What a shame, they look so trick and would be a nice addition to my racebike. keep pestering him....and anyone else who would like the chance to buy the under seat unit. |

Renegade praise, this time from mark.helen0@tinyworld.co.uk
purchased a low level carbon oval race can for my sv650sy.fitted myself-really easy. can't believe the difference in the bike. it's a crime to stifle the v-twin engine with the stock exhaust.the power delivery is so much smoother and the bike just wants to keep on pulling on acceleration. it really does look great doing the bike the justice it deserves. But the over-riding factor for changing the stock can for me was the sound. living in west Cornwall i am limited to available biking shops so relied on other riders opinions of end cans from resources like the internet and i can tell anyone who is thinking on changing their exhaust to a Renegade system is to stop thinking and do it. no disappointment, the noise is absolutely fantastic. i couldn't believe the difference when i first fired it up, a real pulsing thumping beat that gets people looking without annoying them. i am over the moon with my sv and couldn't say enough good things about the Renegade system, and the service-especially if you are fitting it yourself. get one today satisfaction guaranteed! |

24/04/01 - Sidekick
Exhaust feedback - thanks for this info Chris chrisandkay@blewett25.fsnet.co.uk
I recently had a hi level pipe made by Sidekick in Plymouth, after my Art carbon can split, it is the first hi level Dave has made for the SV and he now has a pattern for the link pipe and other mods, i must say though that they have made a top job of it though, and that the standard of service is real good. I woudn't hesitate to deal with him again, anyway the quality of build and finish is excellent, its replaceable and can have a decibel killer fitted for track days etc, oh it also sounds mega. thanks for the top site. thanks.. |

Renegade Exhaust Can - Paul pw@gofree.co.uk
provides more good comments on Renegade service and asks.. Just a short note to say thanks for the recommendation for the Renegade exhausts. After reading the messages on your Web site I ordered a stainless steel oval can from Renegade. It arrived a couple of days later and they even mailed me some instructions so I could fit the can myself. This process only took about 1 hour ( and that was with me being really careful ). It also only took limited tools ( a socket set and decent hacksaw ) and limited mechanical ability ( i.e. me ! ). The can sounds superb and the fact that I can refit the original is another bonus. I was a little apprehensive at tackling the job myself but the chaps at Renegade gave me a few tips and it really was a piece of cake ! All in all I was well impressed with the service and the product. PS - Just a quickie .... do you know what the penalty is for having a race can on my bike ? If I get pulled will I get points on my license or a fine ? Can the police make me take it off ? Do you think I will get a lot of hassle from the Cops ? I believe that you can end up with points (3?) on your license but in many cases you are given a 'warning' to ensure you have a legal can fitted. This mean putting the original back on and going down the station to get a bit of paper signed (this is only the process I've heard about...not been through it myself). I have had no hassle at all from the police but then again I don't use excessive speed or pull wheelies down the high street. My view is that you won't get pulled for an aftermarket can unless you're doing something else to attract the attention of the police i.e. speeding or riding like a prat (or unless it's *really* loud - your Renegade won't be) |

- REMUS pipes - this info from Philip pgh@eurosport.com
Not much on the site about Remus so Here is my contribution. Having fitted Remus GP carbon cans to my ex TLS I was a great believer in them. Excellent sound reasonably quite at low revs around town and a real blast on the pipe. But with a journey through central London each day very risky. When I checked out the SV pipes on offer there were many good loud pipes around but many of them offered no return to the original pipe plus many of them were LOUD. I wanted some road pipes that looked good and had some sound. For price and looks the Remus was tempting, the oval ally were a good price and from www.slickbiker.co.uk even cheaper. I took the plunge, with on order from them, very helpful and just 24 hour free delivery. The Remus road pipe looked the bizz but no instructions. I looked at all the site photos and decided if Renegade could hack off the old box with a hacksaw so could I. An hour later excellent transformation and the sound while not loud was a lot louder than the original with good bass note. So here are the pics, any queries email me pgh@eurosport.com The rack and engine bars are Renntec, also excellent. I’ve put them on all my previous bikes saved many an engine case and the racks are 1st class. |

- NEW EXHAUST FROM HOLESHOT -
Marty mhuffman@mail.ci.newton.nc.us
sends this for your pleasure...
wanted to send you some pics of holeshots new slip on exhaust. of course you have to cut the original pipe to mount this. the pipe comes with a coupler to remount the stock unit. Mr Walker advises not running a jet kit but shimming the needles and turning the mixture screw like you have post here on the site. The pipe comes with directions and shims. you can expect a 3 to 6 horse power gain. and 50 % weight lose. no word on finish date of the dual pipe system. |

- Art Exhaust Can for SV650 - Adrian AdrianMol@yahoo.com
sends this for your pleasure...
Thanks for a great site, really well thought out. I have recently fitted an Art Exhaust Can and I hoped you would add the following to the Exhausts Area. No problem...sorry for delay... I think the High Level Renegade Silencers look the business but at over £500 they represent a major investment. I recently fitted an "Art" Oval Alloy Can, anodised Blue it really looks cool on the bike. Fits in 30 minutes and only cost me £140 at the NEC Show, £155 normally. I choose Oval as the silencer can be tucked up really close to the Swinging arm. The Art also weighs exactly half the standard item at 5.5 pounds. The sound is superb, that really mellow sound of rolling thunder you get from a Ducati. The Art can sound a bit too fruity in a built-up area
though. At under 4000 revs the bike does not cause heads to turn but open the throttle and you do get
noticed. Performance is generally improved with a noticeable rush from 9,000 to the redline and no flat
spots that I can detect. The pipe sounds best opening up from low revs in a high gear, yum yum! I now find
myself cruising about 10 mph faster as the mellow rumble makes the engine note even more relaxed. |

Whilst acknowledging the sites affection for renegade exhausts
and living but 10 miles from their factory, they would probably be my first choice also. However I was lucky enough to win a Sidekick exhaust
in last years MCN xmas competition. It kept me occupied whilst having to
work over the millennium , finding the answers. However Dave at Sidekick had never 'done' an SV650 until now, and I
didn't fancy a trip down to Plymouth to be the first. However the first
one has now been completed and I have been sent these images which I
share with you. Hopefully I will get my own soon. |

- TWO BROTHERS EXHAUST FEEDBACK - Thanks very much Cory
cory.mann@attws.com (W.M.S.C. #516)
I thought I would let people know about a good exhaust system i purchased for my SV 650. It's from Two Brothers Racing. I got a full race high level system and the finish is top notch. My tuners printer wasn't working but there was a 10hp gain in the midrange and a couple on top. the bike ran great, (I put in a dyno jet kit and it didn't make much difference) all in all a great improvement in performance and sound. I've got the carbon round muffler and haven't had any problems, I only race it (no hot spots or color fading with the carbon) They have a lot of good products for the sv including rear-sets and handle bars (and the coolest bar end mirrors made). they have more power on top but the . I highly recommend the exhaust. |

- MICRON FULL SYSTEM SET-UP FEEDBACK - Thanks very much Rick r.tornello@erols.com...
I talked to the people at Micron. They indicated that their experience shows them that the best results with their full system is simply to adjust the needle 20 to 40 thou and turn the screw 1/2 to 3/4 more than it currently is. This is US spec. I haven't done this yet I worked the suspension first with a Fox in the back and a full Race tech set up in the front. A very different bike. As far as the reworking of the carbs and the exhaust goes, does it really make that much of a difference in the "normal range" of use? I've only done the aftermarket can thing (as you all know by now) and yes, it does make a difference to normal range riding. I never felt a flat spot at 5000rpm before I had the Renegade cans fitted but now I realise there was one! Pulls strong and clean right through 5000rpm and upwards. It is faster and more torquey <sp?> |

FITTING OF TWIN PIPES - Martin (Martin.Anderson2@NTL.com)
needs to know....
Could anyone please tell me the best place to have another pipe fitted to my sv650sy so it will have split pipes at either side. I currently have a Scorpion race can on at the moment would it be poss to put that in part ex as well as my original can the bike has only done 800 miles could anyone please help me. I think it's very unlikely any supplier of twin systems/cans for the SV (or any other bike) will take your used aftermarket and original can off you. I suspect you'll have to sell them privately and then go for the twin cans you really want. The next comments come from my own experience and they've been expressed by others loads of times. Renegade will supply twin cans and modified collector to convert your SV to a twin can bike. The difference is that you keep your original Suzuki can. Renegade will modify the cut end with a sleeve and you'll be able to refit the original can should you need to do so (MOT, police etc..). You use a cap supplied with the twin cans to block off the left hand exhaust exit from the collector. You then sell your Scorpion can (send me an advert and I'll post it) and you're sorted. If anyone wants to comment on other make twin can set=ups then drop me an email... |

MAINLY MICRON EXHAUST - Tom (tbrading@excalib.co.uk)
has talked about a few things but it's mainly exhaust related...
I have had my Blue SV650S since March, this site convinced me the SV
was the right choice and 3000 miles later I am still grinning. I have kept
mods to a minimum with a Powerbronze Airflow screen (definitely recommend) and
a Micron Full Race System. The new exhaust sounds amazing although the fit
isn't perfect. The first Carbon end can sheared in half coming off a round about due to the rubber mount
falling apart, the replacement end-can seems to be standing up to the job well.
The A quick question Dunlop D207 or Bridgestone BT56 ? Can you mail me if you use either of these (especially the softer compound variants). |

MICRON FULL EXHAUST SYSTEM - Lee (Ticker78@aol.com)
lets us know about his new system...
Superb site, Being excited about hearing the finished effort I decided to start her up and check the rest of the system for leaks finding there to be no leeks from the system or the front down pipe. The pipe is secure and I've taken it out and I have no power loss so I have left it for now, I need a new tyre so when I take it in I'll ask the mechanic about it but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me where I had gone wrong or if this was normal ( which I dont think it could be ). The pipe does take a bit of getting used to at first because of the difference in noise levels but it is well worth it with looks, power (got a dyno chart?) and the throaty rumble it sends out. |

- RENEGADE EXHAUST FEEDBACK - Jon (FLEMINGJohnnycab@aol.com)
is more than pleased with his twin system...
Great to see that other sv owners have had the pleasure of meeting MAD JORGE! Boy is this guy radio rental on anything with two wheels as well as anything with two....... Anyway this is just a big plug for all the staff as well as Jorge (George to you and me) down near Brands. After having my twin high level carbons fitted in Nov99 I have been back countless times for other adjustments and fittings as well as just to see what bikes are undergoing surgery. Your always made to feel welcome whatever the time (after 8pm is not unusual) and you come away with that long forgotten feeling of personal customer service. The reason behind this plug ?......getting fed up with people stopping me in petrol stations , car parks and traffic lights asking "f*****g great pipes where ja get 'em from". Get yourself down there and check out the man with a '90 degree twin between his ears ! Cheers George.......Big Jon |

G-FORCE EXHAUST INFORMATION - Tony (TonyStorer@grassmere99.freeserve.co.uk)
says...
I have a yellow SX which i adore! Also some info on aforementioned exhausts which may be of interest. Spoke to Mike today at 'G-Force', they make some very attractive exhausts for SV650. Two models available, a slip-on end can (cutting required) and a 3/4 system where the existing front cylinder downpipe is maintained. Power is claimed to be up by 4 bhp or 7 bhp with 3/4 system. Alloy, Carbon, titanium available and prices range from £140 for round alloy end can to £405 for 3/4 system with oval titanium. I do not work or have any connection at all with this company but found Mike very helpful and knowledgeable concerning SV650 so decided to share info. I am saving for a 3/4 system with round carbon (£340). Their telephone number is Tel 0115 9441032 (Ilkeston, Derbyshire) Anyone running a G-Force exhaust with further comments? |
