Hey, A follow up message from Kelly Hey John, |

Jan 23 - Hello from Greece
Hi to all SV-owners. I have chosen to buy one sv650s 4 and half years
ago, because of the information I found on this website. If it weren't for this webpage, I would have bought a Fazer 600 (Brrr!!!). I just want
to say thank you, almost 5 years and 90.000 Km later. I am still in love with my SV and I still use it to play hard games in the streets with
bigger and faster bikes!! It is the best bike to learn on..I am sorry to learn about Kevin. |

Jan 1
It's common to
think about the last 12 months at this time of year. In doing so I'm
reminded of how much has happened and of a story that I've not shared
until now. Back in April,
I got a chance to visit MCN again and test drive the new SV1000. Obviously
I was quite exited about this and it was a very enjoyable day. The bit
that has stayed with me though is the tips that I got from Dave, one of
the MCN test riders and ex BSB rider. His tips have stayed in my head
every since and my riding style has changed because of this. So what am I
doing differently. I ride with the balls of my feet on the edge of the
footpegs and I move my body weight a lot more. I don't necessarily hang
off on corners but I do shift to the left or right to help the bike turn.
Just goes to show that after 30 years of riding, there is still something
to learn. Kev was envious that I got this chance. I remember telling him
the details on my return and sharing the photos. He was killed a few days
later. Also in April,
almost at the same time. I got an email from Nick Avery of Carlton TV.
They were planning to do a test drive on the SV1000 for the Pulling Power
series and wanted to add some background to the article about how popular
the SV650 had become. The wanted me to put them in touch with some SV
owners for filming. Luckily I had a list of email addresses from people
who had bought Site stickers. I chose a fairly mixed bunch of young, old,
male and female people, based in the London and West Midlands area. The
details were sent off and we waited and waited. I chased Nick for an
update. Apparently the SV that had been promised to the program had been
totalled by one of the magazines and a spare wasn't available for that
time slot. The time slot was important because the tester/presenter had
limited availability, possibly James Allen. Anyhow nothing more was heard
and that was that.....shame. The annual
rideout was a hoot as usual. Steve Jelly, Mark Horridge and the rest of
the team did a great job in organising this event. Thanks chaps. I still
have my official pass pinned to my notice board as a memento. Pity there
wasn't many photos of the event but we had fun, the weather held and we
raised some charity money. In July Wayne
Walker did his Lands End to John O'Groats trip. The numbers involved
didn't get as large as Wayne hoped but he had a good time and again raised
a lot of money for charity. I'm just so sad that he was killed a few
months later. Another black day. I tend to see
this time of year as the doldrums. I can only look forward to the coming
spring. I do have my annual service and spring clean to perform on the SV,
but this has got easier over the years thanks to the gradual replacement
of substandard parts. I'll be shopping in January for a new back tyre , a
chain and some sprockets. I have a set of Ohlins fork springs to fit and
if funds permit I might replace the front brakes hoses. In January I
usually attend the Autosport show at the NEC, with my London friend Neil.
It's mainly 4 wheels but I have bumped into a few bike celebs there. Two
years ago I got John Reynolds photo, just after he became BSB champion. I
managed to delete it by accident afterwards. Doh! Worth a visit if
you an obsessed petrol head like me. In February
this site celebrates it's 5th year. I should do something special, so I've
booked the Cafe Royal in London along with a few celebs for a knees up. I hope the coming year is good to you all. Spare a thought for those that didn't make it. John |
