24 June Big Ape collection

This item refers to http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=9567  I'm keeping a tally of contributions for Big Ape on this page. If necessary I'll move it to the July page, when the calendar turns. I'll also keep it at the top.

For those that don't frequent the forum, Bigape has had a bad off on the M40/M25 junction. See thread  and http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=9539 for more detail

June 24 - Home made Hugger

Hi John, you have a great site here with plenty of good links. I always check back weekly for new posts and pics but they have been a bit on the slow side lately, I presume everyone's too busy riding the damn bikes to talk about them. Well this wet weekend I gave my k3 sv650 a bloody good clean and decided to send you some pics. Modifications so far include: viper stainless can (sounds great) 14 tooth front Renthal sprocket (from b&c express, very quick service) rear end tidy up (thanks to one of your previous posts) and Michelin pilot race tyres (very sticky) and finally my new hugger crafted by myself !!!!

Yep I do get less posts, but the new forum is to blame for that. No one needs me to post photos when they can do it themselves. I'm not complaining, makes my workload lighter. I'm impressed you made that hugger yourself, I assume you work in this field. John

June 24 Bandit Man

Here is a pic of me on my sv650s. note the hi-level full micron exhaust system and Simpson bandit helmet! cheers Aaron

Been around for a while these lids, but they still look cool.

June 24 More links

I should be grateful if you would consider lnking to my website, the address is;

http://www.motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/

If possible, it would very much be appreciated if you could also link to the following page (it is a new section with thousand of motorcycle gifts) that I have recently launched;

http://www.motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/gifts.html

I will, of course, return the favour by link to your site twice, one in the main category related to your content and also the full A-Z link directory, both clickable from my home page.

Please let me know when the link is online and I will return my appreciation by uploading both links to you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and regards

Jun 24 - Big Bore SV

Hi John, Great website! Thought you might find the V5 logbook from my new SV interesting - looks like I have had it bored out to 1645cc according to the DVLC! Don't know how to post pics on the Forum, so I will leave that up to you. Regards, Stan the Man aka Dave Mortimer

Don't ask for an insurance quote.

June 20 Fitting an adjustable clutch lever to the SV650

John,

Here is the how-to I mentioned last weekend. I've done it as a word doc but can give it you in any format you want.

Regards

Paul Baxendale (PBx)

Thanks Paul. I've added it to the FAQ section in HTML format. FAQ's are available in the main menu.

John

Good turn out yesterday (rideout 2004). I think everyone had a good day, I know I did. (good, nice to see you again)

re the "subject"

I know quite a few of the guys who post on cbr-forum.org.uk  (& in fact went to France this May day bank holiday for a few days, with them. 23 bikes, 16 CBR 600s and 7 various others. I was the only SV. Managed to hold my own with the saner participants).

One of guys lost a mate caused by diesel spillage, the link will explain it better than I can

http://www.cbr-forum.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7497

I was wondering if you fancy adding a bit more weight to the campaign by putting something on SV650.org, the more publicity the better for all concerned.

Regards Gavin

Happy to oblidge. If there's one thing that gets my gander up is diesel spillage. The local bus company are the worst contenders around here. You'd think the wasting of so much expensive material would get them doing something about it, let alone the safety of the public. I've rung the police more than once to let them know about the bad spills I've noticed. We all know it's the bus co because the puddles are by bus stops and the drips follow the bus route, but unless you catch them in the act, the bizzies can't do anything. argh!

June 13 - Ride-out 2004

Thanks to all those that made it. I had a great time, hope you did too. I've quickly cobbled together my photos and they can be viewed here.  Special thanks to Dave Crabtree for putting together the rideout route.  John

June 12 - That animated V twin image!

Maybe it's just me, but when I see the v-twin animation on your site, it hits a weird chord. I played around with it a bit, so here's an updated, 90 degree, V-Twin animation for your site. Use it if you like.

-Chris

I did, though I flipped it around and reduced it in size a little. Looks good and thanks to Chris for taking the time. Here's the original for those of you who might like to use it elsewhere.

June 6 - Duczuki?

Hi,

here are some new pics (from germany) of my finished SV-Duc. I did this transformation after a "little" crash two years ago. Now everything is with german TÜV. If you need more information about this bike, look at my website: www.sv645r.de.vu  or send me an E-Mail.

Looks good doesn't it.

June 6 - Hello from Marbella

Hi John,

Hope all is good with you. I think the site is excellent and compares with any out there and betters most. This is a fantastic media for similar minded people to get to know each other and to share information and experiences.

At times when I am reading the guys talk about the rides they are going on it is only then that I actually miss being in England as they remind me of some great ride outs with pals. I have had my bike for 3 weeks now and love it! I wondered if you would put some pics on the site for me? One or two are of perhaps an "arty" nature but just wanted to offer something a touch different. I will leave it to your editorial skills to decide which to include!

I have taken the shots in low resolution hopefully to allow speedier downloading for you.

Kind Regards,

Peter Henry. Marbella, Spain. Silver K3 Sv650S CCC end can Hamicad Fender Eliminator Hamicad radiator and oil cooler grilles

I've held over a couple of Pete's photos as possible cover shots. I'm always looking for something arty for that page. Scenery's nice isn't it.

June 1 Bits'n'Bobs

Hi John - sorry it's an e-mail, but I'll get onto the forum in future. Meanwhile:

1. I bought an Abba stand rather build my own (getting old not lazy) and it works easy and good. Firm sent extra parts when I asked about the fit - which sorted it - at no cost. very helpful people. As I have a trolley jack I can get the front up easy. People should be sure to return the bike to the sidestand rather than mess with it half-cocked - I nearly dropped my precious.

2 I've tried ringing the police about this but they never answer: there is a stripped-naked SV 650 frame in the River Don, near the Bridge behind Sheffield Speedway. Chris Pulfrey told me that local police retrieved a number of nicked bikes from a reservoir at Grenoside in Sheffield - keep your eyes peeled, and if you're missing an SV, get down to the river - the frame is not damaged, but having a bad back I couldn't rescue it.

3. Attached is a pic of a bodywork protector. The background is from a cut-out sheet of woven aluminium. The pattern is a water transfer from a Hippy/Biker/trinket shop. Instructions: 1. Apply the transfer after cutting the shape you want, 2, when it's dry, spray over with clear lacquer. 3 Stick on bike but be sure to line it up accurately.

By the way, I've disconnected the wires from the ignitor and it'll now redline in 2nd & whatever - but still stammers after that. Alex Oliver, Sheffield

June 1

Only two weeks to go! ...to the Rideout 2004.  In case you've been asleep, we're all meeting up at the Cat'n'Fiddle on Sunday June 13th. Should be a good gig, lets hope the weather holds. Don't forget to bring a camera, you can't rely on me to catch everything. See the Rideout 2004 button on the main menu.

Got an email from TonyP the other day regarding the Used Bike Guide. He wrote to the editor regarding it's comments on the SV and added his own experiences. The SV piece was updated this month and mentioned Tony a couple of times. They also mentioned this site, something the biking press seem loathe to do, especially MCN. To quote Tony "the June issue of UBG has been published, including the "how to improve your SV650" section. Starts at page 29 (quick start for you in the WH Smith
reading room's) with recommendations by Banditmania and the editors words start at page 33. I get a mention, some good advice from other people, and sv650.org gets a "well worth a look" mention right at the end."

I published a photo last month of a yellow  SV650s with USD forks and radial disks, with the comment guess who? Old readers would have got this easily....Chris Baker of the MV-SV fame.  The forks are from an 03 GSXR750. Chris has been busy making other mods and an updated article is promised in the near future.

That's it for now. See you all on the 13th.

John
