29/11/01 A possible solution
for the leaky clutch problem below from Stephen Spiteri sspiteri@mps.com.mt
Thanks for posting.
John
Hi there, Regarding the spilling oil from behind the plastic clutch shaft cover. I had a similar problem on my SV but it was nothing alarming. My problem was resolved after removing the pin assembly residing behind the said plastic cover. The shaft had deposits of silicon sealant adhered to it, thus the rubber seal was not able to hold the oil from spilling. After cleaning the shaft and inspecting the seal I reassembled and the problem cleared. A page (attached) from the service manual should help you along. I hope you have the same as its no bother at all and you'll be on the road in no time at all!. Regards, Stephen. |

Leaky clutch cover problem from Gary Gazza36@aol.com
Hi I wonder if anyone can help i have developed an oil leak from the bottom of the plastic clutch cover. My 2ooo SV was a recall model and I would have a case to argue at the shop if the clutch cover was removed to do this recall work. Many thanks Gary. The part involved was an oil scrapper plate (whatever that is) located somewhere near the crank. I presume they had to get to this area via the left or right engine covers. Does anyone know the specifics? If it was the clutch cover, it begs the question of whether they bothered to use a new gasket. |

Dear John letter from Mark .Ashmorecavalier@aol.com
Dear John, After visiting your site and looking at the brilliant (glad you liked them. I'm not sure they're brilliant though) photos of the nec, I have decided to send you a couple of images of my sv for your collection. I hope I have done this right as I have never sent an image before, The spec of my sv up to now is ; yellow powder coated wheels, various purple anodised bolts and bits, gold plated bar ends and yoke, art race can carbon look front and rear indicators, goodridge hoses, blacked out front screen, just to mention a few bits also I have ordered a hugger and translucent airflow screen from powerbronze at the bike show which should be here soon. I'll send the photos (yes please) when the parts are on. cheers Mark Ashmore from Greater Manchester. |

Try before you buy ?
John i have looked at many bikes and was impressed with the SV650S, especially this years model, due to giving Suzuki a couple of years to try out this model and finding its pluses and minuses. I recently rode a CBR600F4 and was greatly satisfied, but not satisfied with the price. I currently own the little GS500E which was a blast for a few years, but I can not even go up a hill with my wife on the back and be confident i will get to the top. I looked at the SV last year but money was tight. I am now in a position to buy one, but i would like to test ride the exact model i want. I have asked multiple dealers but all have said no to test rides i know that is weird, but true. I understand you are in the UK but I am sure if you have created such a great web page for this bike you might be able to help me out with finding a rental center or somewhere i can test this bike. I live in southern California Torrance ca 90501. I hope to hear from you Does anyone know of a dealer close to Peter that could offer a test ride? Any kind hearted souls might like to let Peter have a test ride on their machine. Contact Pete on the link above. John |

From John
Firstly, many apologies for the break in service. I had a sluggish response from the site last Thursday, which I now realize was the cache from the proxy trying to deliver some of the site to my PC. Friday I was at the NEC bike show all day, so I didn't check until Saturday when I was due to upload some photos. The site is hosted by a chap called Steven Nance and is all based stateside. I dropped him an email on Saturday but he didn't pick it up until Monday. Transpires that a router on Steve's network went AWOL and couldn't be replaced until Wednesday. Steve also informed me that some server moves were planned and IP addresses would be affected, more disruption due. I should point out that Steve does this all free of charge and if it wasn't for him this site would have probably folded a long time ago. So thank you Steve. Anyhow Kev and I had a great day out at the NEC bike show. Photos are in the Images section. The silver SV looks superb and was covered in Suzuki accessories including a prototype undertray. One stand I did speak to was the banditmania people, who had a blue SV covered in their goodies, again the photo is in the Images section called img_1287. They also run a Bandit and Sv owners club. Bandit mania are at www.banditmania.co.uk whilst the club is at www.banditownersclub.co.uk or phone 01522 871600 for a catalogue

From Steve George steve.george@smgee.co.uk
Steve is a satisfied customer of Carbon Can Co.
John, Sorry, more pics of a 2001 SV!! (don't apologise, I'll post any pic if I think there is sufficient interest) I hope this will be of interest though: I recently fitted my bike with a high-level carbon race can from the Carbon Can Company. I chose it on price, quality of service, recommendation from a friend, and the fact I live near to them so was able to haggle a cash discount! :-) The can comes with a lifetime warranty, and (unlike some larger manufacturers) they don't require you to return it to them for periodic servicing as a condition of warranty. While I was there, they showed me a scratched can from a dropped bike. They were going to disassemble it and rotate the sleeve to hide the scratches free of charge, to save the owner paying for a new sleeve. I cannot say if the can is better or worse than any other. It looks good, sounds fab and cost me £200 (supposed to be £225), and makes a nice alternative to all the Rene....s I see on here! If you live anywhere near them (Fleetwood, W. Lancs.) it's worth a visit, but take some cash with you! Their website www.carboncanco.co.uk appears to have a problem at the moment, but check out www.performancemotorcycleparts.co.uk/exhaust_pages/carbon_can_co.htm or tel. 01253 877900 I'm going to try and make an sound recording of the bike which I will send on if successful! Steve (Steve, you didn't mention performance, any changes to driveability. John) |

From Sacha Henchman shenchman@yahoo.com
Sacha seems a little keen on his
mountain biking and the SV he can't decide which to use, so he uses
both. John
Here's a link to pics of a bike rack i built for my sv that i thought site readers might enjoy--it's quick releasable & attaches to the givi case bracket & passenger peg. you should be able to right click & pull the jpegs right off ofoto, but let me know if you want the originals. Here are a selection of Sacha's pics. I just hope doesn't have an accident. The police will spend an age looking for the rider of the MTB that crashed into the SV! |

From John
Winter is fast approaching and the opportunities for getting out and about are getting fewer. Having said that, Kev and I shot off to North Wales last Saturday. We left Oswestry in the sun and headed for Llangollen and then across glorious welsh roads to Conwy Castle (my idea). Once we dropped down from the hills in Denbigh toward Conwy the heavens opened. By the time we got to Conwy we were soaked. So much for taking some photos. We stayed long enough to find the loo's and warm our hands on the hand driers. We then headed to Bets-y-Coed, where we found a fish and chip shop. Food never tasted so good. We then left for home and a warm fire. Kev's enjoying his VFR and sends his regards. |

6/11/01 Mark Bradley of James Holland Racing has asked for an Ad on the front page. I'm happy to oblige, they seem as keen on SV's as anyone else here. Check them out here www.jhsracing.co.uk |

Misfire solution from George Brannick George.Brannick@eei.ericsson.se
Thanks for this George.
Hello John, I have been using your excellent site as a resource to try to identify the cause of my misfiring '99 SV. A full account of what was the symptoms & the cause is under Thread 2737 "General SV650 Discussion". My bike started to cut out completely at high revs, or at low revs if given sudden wide throttle. The culprit turned out to be the foam piece which is stuck to the underside of the tank. Even though it was stuck firmly all around the edges, the portion directly above the air intake was loose. I had been using your FAQ on "Carb Icing" to eliminate possible causes, and I suggest it might be useful to add the "Foam Factor" as a possible cause of misfire/poor running. I had known about the foam loosening from other mails on your site, so I think it may be a relatively common cause & may deserve to be highlighted on the FAQ. Consider it done. May save someone a lot of grief |

John, I have an 2001 SV650S that I would like to have posted on your website. The gallery if fantastic! Keep up the good work! Thanks, Kevin. A first I thought not another pic of a 2001 SVS, but I fell in love when I opened the photo, a superbly subtle paint job complemented by the high level can. Top notch. |

Jason Phillips-Peters jason@jaysv650.free-online.co.uk
is a satisfied customer of this shop and has asked me to place an Ad
for them. I don't mind doing this as none of the ads on this
site pay for the privilege. The only criteria is that they offer good
service to either SV owners or anyone else. Maybe I'll move the ads to
a new section if they get too numerous and call that section
'recommended services' or such like. Let me know what you think, also
let me know if any of the sites advertised fail to live up to
expectations. John
Meantime here's the Shop that Jason is praising. http://www.mandmmotorcycles.com/home.htm |
01/11/01 - Chauncey Reed chauncey@aristotle.net
has been modding his SV. Here are the pics to prove it.
Hey! What's up? Here are some Pics of My 2000 SV. (sorry its so dirty) I took the Blinkers off because I didn't like them, and the mirrors because the shaking gave me a headache. I added an undertray/Fender eliminator from SV650.com. ; K&N Jet Kit, and high flow air filter. To top it off I added a nice little HoleShot slipon. WHOW! Is that My bike? Huge difference in sound and performance; Nice throaty roll. It is certainly a head turner now. |
