Oct 25 - Fork Fest What's that I hear you say? Well John, as I've been going on about the front of the SV being "pants" for so long now and it being not so much an upgrade, but fixing a fault. A number of the guys wanted the spring /oil/air gap & sag done. So I offered to run a day where a number of bikes could be done at the same time by their owners, and provide tools stands and guidance. The day was yesterday (24/10/04), and here's a brief summery of how it went. I'd invited all thoughts attending to be at Enfield for 10AM; the start of proceedings to be at 10.30, time for a brew before the off. Greg (jonboy) was the first to arrive, and I promptly turned him round to grab some milk from the local shop. He came back with a host of chocolate biscuits as well (top job, well it would have been, except I'm diabetic and can't have any, dam!). Come 10.30, Jordan (Flamin_Squirrel) arrived, followed shortly by Iain (Sid squid) in his van (giving me a hand for the day), Then Raf turned up. Si (BigApe) then arrived, because I think he had heard their were biscuits going, James (BillyC) followed and the last to arrive were Simon (Mr Toad) and Dan (Sudoxe). We started with a briefing to explain some of the terminology used and the basics of how the suspension works, showed what static sag was and how to measure it (I printed of the explanation on Race tech's site, as It's fairly straight forward and handed around a copy to those that wanted it) . We split the six into two groups of three, Iain (Sid squid) started with Greg's (jonboy) bike a closely supervised, fully explained process, and I did the same with Jordan's (Flamin_Squirrel). Which took some time but allowed everyone to see and understand what was going on? After that, we pretty much left them to get on with the rest, both me and Ian keeping a close eye on what was going on, and to be fair, no one made any major mistakes, which I think shows they were paying attention. After a fairly slow start, it turned into a neat little production line with people doing bikes and test riding the results, and then helping the next one get theirs done. Several brews, about 5 and a half hours and a packet of fags later, all the bikes were done. That's 2 K4's, 2 K3's, a K2 and a K1, both naked and faired of each, were done. We setup a modest improvement in pre-load for everyone, and after all the test rides they all seemed happy with the results. I'm sure some of those in attendance if not all, wouldn't have attempted the fork work by themselves, so it was good to see them getting on with it by the end of the day. Hopefully they will have a bit more confidence in the future to look at other things as well. I think a good day was had by all, and it was worth their while coming, I certainly enjoyed passing on some of the lessons I'd learned over the years, and even simple things like using a hacksaw or vernier gauge properly, pay dividends in the future. Even the weather held off and we didn't have a spot of rain all day, now that can't be bad. I'd like to say a big WELL DONE to all though's on the day as I expected to have to fix a few problems, but didn't have to do any. And a special Thanks to Iain for coming down to help out (as it's his full time job, and he gave up a Sunday to do it, Cheers m8). Depending on demand, following the success of this venture, I may well run another day early next year, or possibly do one a servicing? Who knows? Cheers Mark (Rictus) Sounds like a great success, well done to you for organising it. |

Oct 17 New link Hi John, I was wondering if it would be okay to post a link to my new site, www.northukbikers.co.uk It's biased to those in the North, who ride any kind of bike, and it won't take any members away from your brilliant site, its just under 2 weeks old, and is already 40+ members strong. So any chance that it would be okay? Thanks James McCartney Scudriderdude |

Oct 1 More on screens Hi John, I've changed email again! saw the message on current month (sep 04) about double bubble screens and window tint, I looked into this and was advised against putting that window tint film on plastic as it will rot the plastic - that was the advice of the guy that fits it. hope it saves a few screens Pete |

Oct 1
Can't say I've got much to
write about this month. The same is true for the current month section,
which gets smaller and smaller each passing month. I can see that the
traffic that once came to me is now going into the forum directly. This
saves me a heap of work and may lead to me revising how I deal with the
main site. I shall ponder.
I noticed that the hit
counter on the main site notched up 2,000,000 hits the other week. Not
bad considering it's only the front page that gets logged. |
