29 Aug - Raul from Portugal

Hello,

I'm a fan of your site since I own my SV650 '04. She's my first bike ever and I hope to ride her for many, many years.

The SV's are not very famous in my country, but the few owners just love them!! It's a tremendously fun motorcycle indeed...

Your site has provided me with lots of useful info and I think it's time to offer something in return, thus I send you the first stage of an illustration I'm working on, with the obvious inspiration :)

Hope you like it! Godspeed,

Raul Vicente from Portugal.

29 Aug - Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic.

Dear Mr Tapley

As the Editor of the SV650.org website, I thought that it would be a good idea to let you know about the Total Control Advanced Riding Clinics that we are introducing into the UK after more than ten years of successful operation in the USA.

As you will be aware, getting riders to undergo any training to improve their skills is a bit of an uphill task, but we are firm believers that only with training will we be able to enhance the riding experience as well as reduce the casualty rate. As part of our introductory strategy, we would like to offer you a free place on an upcoming clinic, so that you can learn for yourself just what Total Control is able to offer. Our hope is that then, you will be able to help us spread the word about this new and unique training system.

The Total Control Clinics are unique in that they are a blend of 40% classroom instruction and 60% machine control exercises. The classroom element gives students a rare insight into how their mental state seriously affects their ability to control their machines, especially when things start to go wrong. The objectives of the clinics are that the students will have a specific and measurable improvement in their riding. They will know more about how their machine works. They will understand how what they do to their bikes affects their ability to maintain control and most importantly, they will be able to self diagnose any riding problems as they ride.

This is quite a lot to achieve in just one day, so the clinics are structured so that each classroom session and machine control exercise, provides a memorable building block upon which the next exercise is based. Each classroom session discovers the background to one of the six keys to proper cornering and the subsequent exercise demonstrates the profound importance of these key facts on a riders ability to go round corners.

Because the Total Control clinics are run on a large enclosed area of tarmac and not on a race track or road, riders of all different types of machines can perform the exercises without being intimidated by faster riders whizzing past them, or by other traffic getting in the way.

Initially the Total Control Clinics will be offered from our dedicated site quite near to Stratford on Avon, but It is hoped that we will be able to expand the operation to other areas in the near future.

You will find attached a recent article from Two Wheel Tuner magazine which details how Total Control is being used by the US military to reduce the accident rate among their soldiers and airmen.

Much more information can be found at our website on www.totalcontroltraining.co.uk

You can also get an idea of what Total Control is all about by looking at a short video presentation from Cyclesports Tv at www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZYUYeHMkyg

We would be very happy if you could take us up on our offer, but even if you are unable to, we would still like to offer your members a significant discount on the published rate. Please do not hesitate to contact us for details.

26 July - Brecon Trip

Took a trip to the Brecon Beacons last weekend with some old friends from London. The weather shortened the trip somewhat but we still managed to have some fun the welsh roads between rain showers.

We came across a road race on our visit in the town of Aberdare. It was a bit like holding a F1 race in Regents Park. Narrow roads (paths) lots of trees and stone walls. Not for the faint hearted, and in the wet too.  Photos are on Flickr.com.

7 July - Rumour Mill

Greetings,

I thought you may be interested in this. This is a Suzuki SA advert from a popular local bike magazine www.bikesa.net The add features the new SV with the water cooled oil filter. The official SA Suzuki website however still features the old bike! The current exchange rate is about R13 to 1 GBP.

Regards,
Dave Loubser

This is interesting. The image itself is just the current SV but the text is interesting. The comment about the water cooled oil cooler is a reference to the item now found on the Gladius that replaced the air cooled version on the SV.  Some of the other specs are interesting too, New Engine, Adjustable Seat. Large capacity full tank. I can't help but think they've put the wrong copy on this image.

Came across a nice piece on adjusting valves on the SV on our own forum. To stop it getting lost or buried I've put it in the FAQ section. Here's the link

7 July - Summers Here.

Bit late getting this page up, sorry about that. Been busy doing other things like riding the bike and painting the house. It's not like I've had a lot of correspondence to pass on anyhow.

The SV has had some attention as it needed an MOT in June and the front tyre was shot.  The MOT was a breeze, maybe helped by the fact that I cleaned and polished the bike before I took it in, maybe.  I'm thinking about some new brake lines next as I'm not happy with the front brakes.

I've been on a couple of rides with Daryl and Ed. Mainly down to Ed excellent 'Barmouth or Bust' and 'Marches Meander' events. I also had a night away in Stafford to meet up with some old friends for the Stafford Classic Bike show.  This was more of a giant auto jumble but still good fun. Photos are here.

Off again in a couple of weeks to do a long weekend in Pembrokeshire.

AR09 is also not far away. Sadly I won't be able to make it this year, but I know Sally has a great event planned. I hope the sun shines for you all.

Football season has now finished for me and my 12yo son. I'd like to say that I get a break for a few months, but planning for next season has already started.
