Hello John, A guy in the forum asked for pictures of a SV with a top box Givi. So I figured "why not shoing mine"... So here's my bike with the top bos on. I have to say I just love the bike. Just a quick plug for R&G. Had an accident yesterday - whilst overtaking a row of traffic a car turned right. I smashed in the door and the wing but kept the bike upright. Damage was limited to the left hand bung being snapped off after the cup that retains the bung snapped, the footpeg bracket snapped and a minor lower fairing scrape. R&G are supplying a complete new set that cost £70 for £25 + £5 P&P - outstanding service and a quality product! As long as you're in one piece |

I've since seen it done with a black bike which looked good and on the red bike in your gallery. I don't think either look as good as this Keith Potts It does look nice |

Bit of a Frankenstein this bike, Nick Pillanger's double bubble screen and my mates rear seat cowl and hugger of his crashed sv (ins co. wrote it off). Please don't laugh at my wrinkled tank bra, cant get it smooth for love nor money, lol. any northwest sv`ers out there? Give Ian (or is it Sharon) a shout if you're in the northest. As for the wrinkles, how about attaching some sussies! |

Hello my name is Ray Smith and I hope the following is of use to people. First of all I fitted Hagon springs and 15w oil to the front and dropped the yokes down the forks 5mm. the result is brilliant handling and feed back from the front tyre. On your site some people have mentioned the poor finish on the front forks and starter motor. I put silver duct tape on both as it is very waterproof and sticks like shit to a blanket. if you take your time and do it neatly you have to be very close to the bike to see it and once winter is over take it off and clean. I am new to all this e mail stuff so when I get into it I will pass on my tips gained from 27 years of riding and racing on the forum as some of the questions asked are things I have gone through and learned the hard way. regards ray Cheers for that Ray. I was considering a rear shock from them until I got a s/h original. |

I have been reading your site for a while now and think it is great, lots of useful tips on it and it also helped me to make my decision to buy my 2002 sv650s this summer. I have not looked back since. Just thought I would drop you a mail to let you know about a product that I bought recently, it is called a wheel-spin and you can get it from www.britnett.net/spinmarketing/listings/5.html . I have been well chuffed with it since I bought it, it is so simple but is a god send when oiling the chain or cleaning the back wheel.. All it is, is a plastic block with ball bearings mounted in it. Sit the wheel on it and spin to your hearts content. Saves me ending up 5 miles down the road and wondering how to get back home like I used to when oiling the chain!! Anyway if this has not been posted before, I thought people may be interested. Thanks Thanks for this Jody, I could do with one of these under the front wheel when on the paddock stand. Bit pricey though! |

Following on from the recent email from Ian about www.patternparts.net , and your request for feedback, I would like to share my experience with this company - I ordered some sintered brake pads, front indicator (which was identical to original) and front brake lever on the afternoon of Monday 2nd December. The goods arrived 9.30am Tuesday 3rd, everything fitted OK and was of superb quality. I would have no hesitation in using them again, if need be. Thanks for the feedback Rod |

Hi John, Good to see you and Kev at the show (I got my jacket by the way). In my extensive search to find somewhere I could get a new battery, I found this website which you might want to add to the links page: www.patternparts.net . They sell (surprisingly enough) pattern parts with all sorts of bits and pieces for the SV. Haven't used them so don't know how good they are but for example clutch levers are £5 and front brake levers are £10.50 - for those folks who keep dropping their pride and joy. They also have filters, pads, disks, chain/sprocket sets, indicators and more. Ian This was covered in May '02 but I think its worth repeating for those that may have missed it. I was also surprised that it wasn't in the links section - it is now. Last time I looked at this site there wasn't a whole load for the SV, sounds like the inventory is getting bigger. has anyone has used these people, if so give me some feedback to share on this site.John |

Dec 1st 'Water in the fuel'

John I recently suffered from water in fuel. The bike wouldn't start and it sat in the garage for 3 weeks before I plucked up the courage! Anyway, it's easy to fix. It took me an hour but if I needed to do it again I could do it in around 20 minutes. I have included full (I hope!) instructions. I have included a test to check if a non starter is because of fuel which stands for any non starting engine, regardless of whether water in fuel is suspected or not. If anyone needs help please feel free to e-mail me on steve@warburtons.org.uk or phone on 0121-605-5516. Also, if the vent pipe is kinked, just follow it to where it joins a T piece, disconnect it #, discard hard PVC sleeve and just point tube down by the rear shock. The idea is based on the standard simpson ,no modifications allowed, but if you really wanted to modify it a bit i don't think anyone would mind , It would run for 6 rounds but only if it's sunny Prizes would will be paid in doughnuts. Any type of tyre is allowed as long as it's black A fresh water fishing license is req [ in date] The winner of the series will get a set of steak knives [in a presentation box] The cost of entering will be one handful of millet anyone interested should contact me . Hello John, thank you for your reply to my questions with reference to the fork issue i have spoken to a guy i know called Dave Wood who used to ride a kwaka 7RR in the privateer championship [BSB] by the way he came third last year[2002] he has told me that post not pre 88/89/rgv250 usd forks do fit the sv650s with little or no mods . I think i will forget the upgrade to EFI on the SV . with reference to the above info if you could put this on the site it may be of some use to other SV owners ,i think i should mention that my name is Mark not Tracey thats my wife and I'm using her computer. Anyway thanks again keep up the good work and a big up to all SV riders and the middle finger to big boar riders who think they can cane us on the twisty bits. Dec 1st Firstly, a big thank you for Stephen Spiteri for this months cover pic. I wanted something special for December and Stephen came up trumps. Apparently November was one of the wettest Novembers on record. Certainly seemed that way to me, commuting backwards and forwards to work. I'm just pleased to have fitted a new rear tyre with some nice deep tread depth. The Contiforce I fitted seems fine. It seems grippy and is happy to work with the Avon on the front. Driving in the wet brings out mixed emotions in me. On the one hand I tend to be more nervous because I know that I have a lot less grip and therefore a smaller safety margin when braking and cornering. On the other hand it is a challenge and very satisfying once you let go of your worries, relax and still carve through the bends leaning further than you thought possible. I still get it wrong though. Last month I nearly went into the back of a car who was waiting to turn right. Why? Because I left my braking a little to late and because I locked up the rear wheel which brought the back around. I couldn't brake any harder on the front while the back was stepped out, so I had to fight my instincts and let off both brakes until the rear snapped back into place, then I hit the front brakes as hard as I dare. I managed to stop. I forget how light the SV is to previous bikes I've owned, so what with the weight transfer going to the front, lightening the rear and a sharp rear brake, it doesn't take much to get the back doing a Gary McCoy. I now use the front a little harder and the rear very gently. |
