- BUYING ADVICE IN THE UK - Thanks to David (David.Pitts@cwcom.co.uk)
for his experience...
Just a short note to all you potential new sv650 buyers. When I went to sign up for my new bike ( sv650 -faired version ) I just haggled a little bit & managed to get a free? chain & lock, I went home & friend called me a pillock!!!!, suggested I call around to see what was cheapest price I could get, (had already paid £100 depoisit,ARGH!!). Anyway after a few calls, a place down south offered me a price of
£4200. This was £650 cheaper than I had just agreed to pay but I would have to
go down to collect it The moral here is don't just accept it. HAGGLE! |

- DONATION TO MENCAP (UK) - You may remember that I had ridden the
National (Navigational) Rally on July 1/2 to raise money for the MENCAP
charity here in the UK. Jorge @ Renegade
Exhausts offered a donation for every exhaust sold at the time I was
collecting. I have now donated the £45 (plus £5 from Steve S in the US)
to MENCAP and enclose the following 'thankyou' email just so you all know
I didn't spend the money on beer instead! (it's doesn't take £50 to
get me drunk btw)..
Subject: Thankyou for donating to MENCAP So, to Jorge & Tomoko etc at Renegade and to Steve S in the USA....thankyou very much. See here for the original offer on 26/08/00 |

- 1/8TH MILE PERFORMANCE - I won't make a habit out of copying text
from the Forum section but I know lots of you ask about SV650 performance
and this goes to show that over a short distance the SV is more than
adequate.....see the General Forum, posting 668 for more information and
follow-up's (thanks to Dan for this)..... I recently took my 00' Sv 650 to the drag strip, and to my surprise she ran awesome. Got a lot of funny looks as I pulled up to the staging Not bad for 650cc! Well done... |

- HAPPY CUSTOMER - This is Chuck (tunedport@att.net)....and
yes, I know I'm indulging myself..... ;- ) Just thought I would drop a line a say thanks for having a sight dedicated to the SV. I have owned my bike for 4 months, and 6000 miles later I'm pleased to
say that it has been extremely fun. I have completed a few modifications which has boosted appearance, in my opinion, as well as performance and drivability.
Your site has been the SV-Resource Meca that I use on a weekly/monthly basis. I have been well informed of the mods, problems, and merchandice available
thanks to this site. I'm not sure how many people don't know this site exists, but anybody that owns an SV should drop by here on a regular basis. Enclosed
are a few pictures of my SV. I have added the Exhaust, Turn-Signals and Clip-ons. I have also jetted the carb to match the exhaust. |

- WATER IN THE FUEL = RESULT!! - This from Jon (jon@prause.dk)
in Denmark.....
I had the problem of water in the fuel as well.... Since the problem is well known in this forum (thanks Kevin) i contacted Suzuki Denmark in order to get a fix on warranty (still got 5 months back). They claimed they never heard of the problem, but agreed to take a look at the description of the problem found on this site (I found about 10 in less than an hour). 3 days later i delivered the bike at the local garage who fixed it at Suzuki Denmarks request. The only thing i had to pay was the rejetting/shimming i had done while the bike was already taken apart. The really great thing about this: SUZUKI DENMARK HAS RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM AND IT WILL BECOME AN OFFICIAL FIX ON ALL SV650'S IN DENMARK - all thanks to this site. good news, pleased we could help!! |

- UPDATE TO SPEED & RPM CALCULATOR - This from Steve (sfoster@tenuteq.com.au).....
The program is at the bottom, just click on the link. I wouldn't mind some feedback and if anyone knows some acceleration formulas I could use to work out acceleration in gears I'd appreciate them as I wouldn't mind find out what affect sprocket/tyre changes have on that too. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/1811/gearcalc.html |

- SV650S IN 2001 LINE UP FOR USA! - Roger (sfoster@tenuteq.com.au)
confirms the good news for US readers!
The official US Suzuki site just announced the 2001 lineup, including the SV650S! It took them two years to pull it out, but they finally did. It looks like a new red and (new?) blue, but no yellow. Rob Chappell makes a good point when he remarks that it will greatly improve the availability of aftermarket parts (windscreens, huggers, etc. for all North American SVS owners (grey market or otherwise). - SPEED & RPM CALCULATOR - Contact Steve (sfoster@tenuteq.com.au)
for this great looking program...
Not sure if you'd be interested in this or not but I've recently
written and speed and RPM calculator so I plugged in the figures for the SV650S and
here is the graph. Any questions drop me an email. Example graph Calculator screenshot (screenshot update too 19/09/00) |

- JHS RACING 750cc UPGRADE KIT - The originator of the upgrade kit
sold by JHS RACING is Dr Barry Seevers (srdco@earthlink.net).
Here he answers some questions I put to him regarding dyno charts/HP, cost
of kit compared to the purchase price of the 'budget' SV and
reliability following Dr Barry feeling that us 'Brits' were giving JHS
RACING a hard time. I explained this was not the case, readers of
sv650.org simply wanted hard information, and evidence, on which to base
any purchasing decision they may be considering. This is Dr Barrys
reply......thanks...
In regards to dyno charts, I should have supplied them to you myself. Here is how I get My Hp readings from a superflow 901B dyno about $97,000.00. I am at 3700 feet above sea level ( I will get lower readings than at sea level ). Motorcycles are hooked directly to the dyno by chain. Housed in a room with fresh air pumped in, exhaust is piped out no contaminants in the dyno room. Now for Hp. stuff. Now for reliability I have sold 127 kits in the USA and Canada 3 came
back to me seized. And to complement Dr Barry's email I received this separate email from James Holland (jhsracing@lineone.net) yes we are very please to be the sole uk importer of srdco/usa range of sv650 tuning parts. with this alliance we will be able to supply an even greater amount of not only parts but also tuning information. |

- HELP? - No name (RennBP@mfr.usmc.mil)
but looking for help..
I would usually write to the forum, but, I need some serious help. I had serious motor problem with my Canadian SV, this began in may. And it came out of the blue. I thought it was due to my riding style so I didn't think much about it. The problem is still being taken care of 2 1/2 months later but Suzuki Canada is going to pay for it. But, it was a major pain in the ass. And I have lost much of my riding season. I know, I know cry like a baby. But, here's the thing. A guy that I work with bought one because he liked mine so much. He is starting to get the same kind of noises that mine started with. Canada does NOT want to pay for this. We need help!!!!!! In a bad way. Any suggestion's, any small tidbits of info anyone can give will help. Thanks. Firstly, the Forum does offer 'serious' help and many read and digest the comments made there. Secondly, if you told us what the problem was then maybe we could offer some help and see if others had experienced the same thing. Email me again and please provide more details. Thirdly, if yours in being corrected under warranty and your friends is proved to be the same fault then surely a precedent has been set and you/your friend can use that in argument to get the problem resolved under warranty. 10/09/00 - Here's Brian's update.... Sorry about the vague email, I was a little pissed off and a bit flustered. The problems: I blew my motor with about 11,000KM on it. Right before the engine went I started to hear a weird knocking noise. It sounded like there was something hitting the bottom of the gas tank. I thought it would be ok to ride home. It wasn't, I made it about 1/2 way then it locked up and a couple of seconds before it locked up it sounded like metal on metal so I pulled over. I called a buddy with a truck and I got the bike to the Suzuki shop and they took one look at it and said this will not be covered under warranty because it was not the US model. That was not the answer I was looking for. I called Suzuki US and the referred me to Suzuki Canada. Turns out, there was a recall on my bike (oil plate) that had never been taken care of. Because of this, they said they would pay for it, and they are. Suzuki have said failure related to the oil plate is rare and only probable on bikes experiencing very high revs for long periods...do you race yours??? I have been waiting for my bike for over 2 months. They kind of have me in a weird situation because the dealership can't answer any of the questions I ask them i.e.. when am I going to get my bike back, what caused this, will it happen again? I was beginning to think that I would be ok once everything was fixed, then my friends (who has the same bike) bike started making the same noise that mine was making the day it blew up. His
problem: We called Suzuki Canada and they said they would NOT pay for his
to be fixed because there was no recall on his bike. The reason is because My question: The US model and the S model are no different below the skin. They are still Suzuki products. Shouldn't they stand by there product no matter where it was bought? If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. All my comments are not based on any specific knowledge, they are just opinions. If anyone knows fact in relation to these issues please email Brian or myself..thanks. It just seems like they SHOULD have to fix the problem. But, I am not sure how it all works. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. |

- ADJUSTABLE NEEDLES, NOT ALL ARE! - Thanks for the reminder Michael (michaelk@BabyCenter.com)...
hey Kevin -- just looking at the "current data" section, and must point
out (since your site is int'l) that not all sv's come with adjustable needles.
Here in California they don't, and I think that's true for all of the USA.
Our fuel screws are coverred with brass plugs also. EPA making life difficult for us :( |

- CAGERS - An positive experience from
David (DavidGeorge@georgecom.freeserve.co.uk)...glad
to hear you're OK..
Just a note to let you know that my faith has been restored in the general public. I managed to drop my Sv big time 2 weeks ago (5
hours before flying away on holiday...wife wasn't best pleased). I was taking a left hander and the front slid out on an oily double manhole cover in Halifax.
Bike hit a traffic island and, to my surprise, so did I. Guess what...4 car drivers stopped to help...one of them was a trained first aider who made me sit down and
take stock of things. Three other guys picked up my SV which was a struggle to move as the forks were bent, the gear shift snapped off and the clutch lever
inoperable and moved it to the side of the road. One guy helped me to operate my mobile 'phone which I'd forgotten how to use in the heat of the moment. |

- REJETTING AUSSIE STYLE - Greg
(greg@cockatoocomputing.com)
send us this information...
The SV650 site is a great resource - only just recently discovered it.
I noted that in the FAQ/how to, with rejetting carbies there seems to be a
whole heap of information on shimming carby needles. This perplexes me somewhat as my SV needle has a clip with 5 slots. In standard form the
clip was in the middle position on the needle. |

- MY RENEGADE VISIT This is a thank you from me to Jorge, Tomko, John, Alan, Ozzie and all the others I've not named for the day spent at the factory on Monday. It was great to see the place where it all happens and meet some familiar and not so familiar faces. My twin low level looks even better today and I've been out this evening as I was getting withdrawals after only a few hours! It was also good to meet Hammy, Andy, Alison, Vladimir, Zico, Robin, Paul, Mike - I've bound to have missed a few people...sorry if you're not included. I'll be posting the notes I made from the day within the next few days along with images to illustrate. For now I've just posted most of my images from the day in the Images Section with no corresponding text. Once again thanks Jorge and keep up the good work! |
